Thanks for re-sharing these thoughts!

Why not one national time zone? One national time zone would help us to be both more nationally unified and locally aware. Scheduling and travel would certainly be simplified: no need to worry about time changes--ever! And for life at a local level, people, organizations, schools, and businesses could look to sunrise and sunset where they live to set appropriate meeting, opening and closing, waking and bed times. And if they want to change according to the seasons: no problem! The silliness of an eight-minute time change would be avoided, but more incremental adjustments would be quite easy to accomplish. The clocks in Maine and Michigan would look exactly the same, but kids would be waiting at bus stops only at the time appropriate for the local community.

I used to live in Phoenix, AZ, and they dispensed with all time changes (South Bend also used to not do the time change, but I think that has gone by the wayside since I graduated from ND in 2005). It was WONDERFUL. Sure, it took a little mental adjustment to remember that we were on Mountain time half the year and Pacific time the other half, but compared to the ways that DST messes with the circadian rhythm, the purely mental adjustment was 100% worth it. I wish more states would follow in AZ's footsteps.
